Pros

For a while, business was booming and there were many opportunities. Most employees are intelligent, fun, and hardworking.

Cons

Several Canadian and US offices are plagued by toxic or unqualified leaders, especially Austin, TX. Leadership training came too late and too little. Most departments are led via fear and degradation and that style is a source of pride for several of these leaders. Individual contributors watch as management wastes valuable time and energy in power struggles with other employees or groups. I was in many meetings at many levels. Pointing fingers is encouraged. Many projects are grossly behind schedule. Sadly, VP and director-level leaders haphazardly throw busywork solutions at problems instead of sticking with ideas and trusting and supporting employees. In some departments employees are whipped around between projects and not given time and focus to do quality work. Many struggle with work-life balance. There was also a culture of motivation and pride in the work so that helped some. Some relatively new groups are attempting to improve dev and installation processes, communication, change management, etc. but are often thwarted by the larger toxic culture and fight for resources, before and after the pandemic began. I saw discrimination and retaliation from several levels of management.

Pros

The North American CEO Genuinely cares about the well being of the employees and made it clear that work life balance was to be respected. They publicly disclosed their vacation time they took to encourage people to catch up. The work was interesting and Kapsch is always on the bleeding edge of technology implementation in the North American Market. Every project manager I worked with on Tolling and Traffic was made me want to learn how to operate on their level. Kapsch was very inclusive, I was provided a pride version of the email signature in 2021 and was never pressured to change it to appease customers. I deeply appreciated that,

Cons

The workload can be demanding as the headcount has not caught up to pre pandemic levels caused by delays in project awards as funding dries up.
