Pros

Kaiser breaks the mold of traditional consulting companies by providing top tier exposure to clients without the grind of Mon through Friday travel. I can't say enough how much I appreciate not being on the road full time ... one can actually have a social life with friends and family in their home city! I also feel Kaiser is an unbelievable place to grow your career and develop skills that separate oneself from ones peers at other jobs or in business school. When I attended business school (which Kaiser fully sponsored ... another perk!), I felt I was a step ahead of peers because I had supported Kaiser projects that had involved many of the issues included in the text. At Kaiser you truly do receive an "informal" business degree, which can give you a solid leg up in the next phase of your career. I also joined Kaiser because of the early exposure one receives to managing others, and because of the friendly and upbeat culture. I truly believe that the people at a firm contribute more to overall happiness at the job than the job itself; and at other consulting companies I interviewed with, I just didn't feel the same openness and positive attitude that I felt at Kaiser. I realize this could just be a personal perception, so feel free to take it for what you will. We have had some turnover recently at the senior level and manager level, but it seems to me like this will actually make us stronger, not weaker. Our firm is getting more streamlined in its management, which should allow us to be more responsive to issues at hand. And lastly, Kaiser restructured its comp earlier this year to be more competitive with the bigger firms. So while it used to be you had to accept slightly lower pay for all the softer-side benefits that Kaiser confers (e.g. limited travel, somewhat shorter work week, DC location), now you get paid similar to other firms, which is a big plus. Note though that we tend to promote quicker than other firms (a big plus), and because of this, Kaiser's titles (e.g. Manager) may not align in tenure with the titles at other firms, and thus comp may differ on a title vs. title basis. E.g. we hire MBAs at Principal level, whereas McK hires at Associate level. Comp is pretty similar between the two, but obviously the titles are different.

Cons

Like any top strategy consulting firm, the hours can at times be a lot. But on average, hours at Kaiser are definitely lower than other top-tier firms like McK, LEK, Bain, etc. Generally the folks who come from other consulting companies prefer and appreciate our work/life balance; whereas the folks who come from places that work 9-5 complain about the extended hours and feel they are unfair.

Pros

People are very close to one another at the firm. They value work life balance highly and make sure that their ACs don't have to work late just because managers might be working late.

Cons

Bonus is not that big
