Pros
Utilize your knowledge of people with intellectual disabilities. In my experience, supervisors and administration appreciate efforts and creativity in developing and implementing programs. The company respects experience and expertise of all employees and welcomes input in the care of the clients. The clients truly come first and the staff work to complete all necessary paperwork to meet state requirements. Staff are supported in these tasks and in behavioral challenges the clients display. There are may staff members who have worked at KCCDD for 10-40 years, who are committed to customer service including keeping current with state trends such as increasing independence, community involvement, education and finding competitive community involvement/volunteer opportunities. The hours and benefits are hard to beat, as the facility closes down at Christmas time for 10days or so paying their employees for the entire vacation. They close at 4:30, which makes the schedule possible for working parents. No weekends. The work is rewarding, clients love staff and staff love the clients with a professionalism and mutual respect. All around great place to work! The insurance is great, too! Highly recommended company to work for.
Cons
People who work in social services are never paid well. However, this non-profit company strives to provide fair pay.
