Dear reviewer,
Thank you for your feedback. I am glad that you had some positive experiences. I am sorry to hear that there was something that happened with perceived misinformation. I can only tell you that we highly value transparency and that if something went wrong in that regard it was not intentional. We will continue to strive to improve in that regard.
A few items that I think deserve an answer:
1) Starting pay is typically an intern's salary. Over the years it started really low and has increased by about 30% in the past 5 years. We continue to try to improve it as the company grows. After the internship, the full-time starting salary is definitely lower than the top of the industry. We truly like to start that way and then have people get 15% or even 20% raises. It helps them and us make sure that the fit is good as we go along together and feels like we invest in all our futures together. All of this is explained up front. HOWEVER there is definitely room for improvement and we are actively looking at raising the post-internship starting salary.
2) The high turn over with devs is pretty intentional. Most of that is from interns getting to the end of their internships. The turn-over for people here more than 2 years is very very low. We have no expectation that people just starting out in their career will want to stay here forever. They often want to learn a lot and then see something different. We aim to provide that experience. Most people are pretty happy with that. We think of them as Alumni more than ex-employees and we mostly keep in touch.
3) I have to disagree with your assessment of technical seniority. There are a variety of areas we need experience in: database, features, architecture, logic and coding, etc... We have some in each of those areas some who have learned here and others that we recruited form senior positions at other technology companies. There are new areas related to DevOps as we are a multi-tenant cloud-based application. We are developing those capabilities but it is a pretty new area. Regardless we will continue to upgrade those capabilities through hiring and professional development.
4) We currently use a variety of technologies. We use a java-based IDE to build using javascript in an HTML5 environment (tool is called Servoy). We use node.js, we work on Microsoft Azure and GCP using Kubernetes and a host of other leading edge tools. We are developing a built-for mobile add-on to our application. I know it's not quantum computing but I will leave it to readers to assess its level of modernity.
Ultimately, the responsibility for a negative experience rests with me, so I am sorry if your experience was not as good as both you and we hoped it would be. Your feedback is appreciated and we will use it to try to improve. I wish you luck with your future endeavors.
Sincerely,
Jon Ruby
