Pros

Used to be a wonderful place to work. The stores were managed very professionally and the customers were great.

Cons

Now it's a DUMP. Corporate has cut hours, reduced payroll, achieved in making a mid-level dept. store into one half step above WalMart. The customer base is almost exclusively ethnic and old people. The former just wants everything at a discount and the latter complains that it's not the same quality and the pricing is up. The con job with the coupons has these minions fooled. Having been in the manufacturing end of the business previously I could see how the quality was vastly lessened throughout the 5 years I was with the company. The "Monday Broadcasts" from corporate are a joke with unprofessional behaviour and inane strategies that would change radically from one month to the next. Red shirts that the employees have to buy for the sales floor on the weekends. Benefits that were changed and lowered to terrible insurance every year. As I said, Run don't walk away from JCP. Hang it up JCP. Mr. James Cash Penney would be rolling over in his grave with how you have ruined his store.

Pros

If you like working early morning hours and getting off early in the afternoon (which I do) this is a great part-time job. I was a college student when I worked here so it worked perfectly with my schedule. The pay is pretty decent and the people you work with are friendly.

Cons

Only real downside is that it's retail. You're going to run into some rude customers from time to time. There's always work to do and not enough time given to do it sometimes. But as long as you work hard and managers see that you're trying your best there isn't too much pressure put on you.
