Pros
The work is interesting and varied. There's scope to learn around the subject, if you do so on your own initiative. The 'shop floor' employees are genuinely nice people which leads to a good working atmosphere
Cons
Driven entirely by short term profits. No sales department so business development falls into the hands of technical staff, which is a waste of their expertise and would probably be done better by dedicated sales people. No real training structure for new hires or any attempt to develop present staff. Everything is done 'on the job' which doesn't work well in such a technical area. Very little chance for career advancement. Management are almost all promoted due to their technical knowledge and therefore have little or no managerial competence.
