Pros
- amazing co-workers- like-minded individuals who provide an incredible support network which is necessary when you're working on such big issues that are seemingly difficult to tackle like climate change and getting big money out of politics.
- meaningful work- you're able to take on a lot of responsibility in areas of campaign and non-profit management working around environmental and public interested issues
- geographic flexibility- we are based in 25 different states across the country and place new employees based on their preferences
- awesome opportunities for advancement. Impact is part of a broader network of non-profits (the Public Interest Network) which has a ton of opportunities for vertical and horizontal advancement after the 2-year training program.
Cons
- can have long hours working on campaigns. need to be prepared to work hard and do what it takes to get the work done on your campaigns. for much of the year, you will work closer to 40 hours, but going in, you need to have the expectation that at some parts of the year, you might be working closer to 80 hours.
- compensation is relatively low but it is absolutely possible to live comfortably in high cost of living areas such as DC or NY given that you make lifestyle choices such has having roommates or using alternative modes of transportation (pub trans, cycling)
