Pros

Work life balance, vacation time, telework the opportunity to create, had a great team

Cons

The e-team is very insecure which becomes very difficult to work with when tryimg to implement change. Managers could not handle critical feedback and often blamed others for issues without any self reflection. Managers are passive aggressive which leads to bad cross-departmental communication. Now being in a healthy work environment it is even more apparent how bad it was. Providing new ideas or trying to engage in brainstorms was not encouraged. Asking questions is not encouraged. The idea of the whole office being one big team working towards a common goal does not exisit which led to people becoming very defensive and not cooperative. Everyone always had a second agenda. Upper management was not genuine and very hard to work with especially because they have limited business acumen. Most of the managers like that had very little work experience outside ISEP so this culture is all they know. It is like being in high school in all the worst ways. They promote people not on their hard work but on cronisim. Mansplaining was a regular occurance and the culture is not positive for women. The e-team knows about the sexism and sexual harassment but if you try to report it you will be told, "oh but he didn't mean it," and nothing will happen.

ISEP Response
7y
It's greatly disconcerting that you perceived ISEP as having a sexist culture during your time with the organization. We did receive reports of one manager behaving and communicating inappropriately, and that individual is no longer with ISEP. However, that single individual was not representative of ISEP's culture overall. We work hard to foster an inclusive and equitable work environment. Our staff is 54% female, and women hold the majority of management positions, with 5 out of 7 Director roles currently being held by women, and two female Vice Presidents on our 5-member Leadership team. We support our team members and recognize their contribution to ISEP's mission. 100% of ISEP's current staff reported receiving praise and recognition for doing a good job in our August 2018 staff survey, and 96% reported their manager seeking ways to help them grow professionally.
