Exciting Engineering & Quality Coworkers - Highest Turn Over Rate Ever Experienced - Mechanical Engineer Hummingbird Scientific Employee Review

Pros

Some of the most diverse and interesting engineering work you can find in Thurston County, probably all of Washington State. The people working there were all kind, talented and interesting individuals. The equipment on hand is state of the art and there is no wanting for new equipment. Massive potential in the industry. Lots of learning opportunities.

Cons

Working long hours and weekends is common and expected at HBS. Feedback is generally negative, focusing on what you were not able to accomplish. Due to the high turn over rate, the work load and content changes frequently and is often more than one person can handle. Job titles are crafted to increase working responsibility without warranting an increase in compensation.

Pros

There are enough challenges to keep the work interesting for a while. This could be a good place work if it weren’t for management.

Cons

The CEO is unprofessional, frequently speaking negatively about employees to whoever will listen. It is always someone else’s fault for his business not running as it should. You will rarely, if ever be recognized for your accomplishments. They are working on a 10 year old pay scale. They do not give regular pay raises. There is no time or budget for training or professional development. The equipment and software is old. They are always underestimating how long projects will take, and their solution is always to work more hours. They don’t allow work from home unless you are a member of the boss’ family. Turnover is quite high due to general dissatisfaction. If this company spent as many resources to retain people as the do to hire people, they wouldn’t have to keep hiring so many people.
