Pros

The work is 100% remote.

Cons

Everything else. No Holidays off except Christmas Day Minimal Vacation and you are made to feel bad when trying to use it. Processes Change about every week. Can't go to HR with any issues, she's besties with the owner. People are let go for no reason, really they were told Hip2Save is an 'At Will Employer' when asked why they were let go. People are let go and the rest of the team isn't told. Managers talk about their employees as being annoying and clueless. They act like they care about their employees, but they see their employees as easy to replace work horses. Work/Life balance is nonexistent and impossible. The moral is super low and over fake feeling when it seems like everyone is happy. You will never ever do enough work. You will never feel like they are happy with what you have done or are doing. If you want to work somewhere where you will feel like you never know what to do because the process changed again, where you are never appreciated, where your emails are read and suggestions are given to you for it before you've even read it and you love to work 24/7 for no raises, this is your place.

Hip2Save Response

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts with us regarding your experience at Hip2Save, though we are saddened to hear it wasn’t the expectations you had in mind. Working at Hip2Save is fast-paced, no doubt about that. And the no holidays off is of course not an ideal situation as an employee, but we keep this a policy across the board and are always vocal about this in the hiring process. As a site that never closes (with the exception of Christmas Day), working holidays have become a must since oftentimes this is when the best deals happen, thus requiring our team to be available to work. The mention of minimal vacations is simply not true. We ask for notice before employees go on break and coverage is assigned so employees can enjoy time off. If anything, we encourage employees to take time off! One thing that is so very important to us is to make sure our entire Hip2Save team feels incredibly valued, and we truly apologize if you didn’t find this to be the case. We will admit in our busy seasons, it’s all too easy for the management team to get caught up in the fast-paced nature of the beast (aka Hip2Save). However, the part about management being negative is difficult to hear because that’s just not the case. Our core values include accountability, compassion, integrity, passion and respect. We are extremely proud of how selective we are when hiring to ensure each and every employee possesses the same core values we do. Having analyzed many of the reviews regarding the company culture, we’ve completely restructured the onboarding process, started holding larger team meetings to involve all facets of the company, prioritized sharing vital company information to keep all team members in the loop, and continue to seek out ways to improve the employee experience. We cannot deny that working at Hip2Save is unlike most other job experiences, but we have made it a crucial initiative to be as transparent and honest in the hiring process so no new team member ever feels blindsided by the expectations. Truth be told, our processes do frequently change to meet the needs of our team members to be as efficient and effective as possible. This may not be for everyone, and that’s okay with us. But it’s not okay for any Hip2Save employee (past, present, or future) to feel undermined or undervalued. As mentioned above, we are transparent about every detail even before an offer is presented to a prospective employee, so there are no surprises. This company was built on morals and ethics. The mission of the company is to help others save money. We value each and every person that works at Hip2Save. Are we fast-paced? Yes. Are we fierce? Yes. Are we loyal? Yes. If you can’t handle constructive feedback, or if you’re not a positive person or passionate about what you do or what the brand stands for, then Hip2Save is probably not the right place for everyone. As mentioned, Hip2Save has worked hard to create a culture of warmth and appreciation. Again, thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback. We truly appreciate your candidness.

Pros

- A work-from-home culture that fosters genuine connections, even though the team is dispersed across the United States. I love that the H2S team communicates via Slack, and there's *always* someone to collaborate, problem-solve, or just chat with! Plus, you can do it all in your comfy clothes! - Autonomy, with accountability. Everyone owns their role at Hip, and works hard in their positions each day! My job responsibilities were clearly communicated during the interview process, and all questions or concerns were addressed with full transparency. - All employees of H2S are team-oriented and share the same passion for providing valuable and reputable content to the Hip audience. When challenges emerge, the appropriate level of management/teams work together to find solutions. Achievements within the team are always genuine and celebrated. - Both management and team members are open to communication and easily accessible. I’m comfortable sharing feedback, asking questions, and discussing concerns - whether it HR-related or role specific. - Every day is FUN! I genuinely look forward to each workday! My position offers the ideal balance of routine and structure, while still allowing each day to be unique with the always-changing content and community engagement. - H2S offers a full benefits package that includes medical, dental, and vision - options along with TeleHealth. A portion of the medical premiums are paid for full-time employees. Plus, paid-time off!

Cons

Being a part of the Hip2Save team offers an overwhelmingly positive experience, with minimal, if any, drawbacks. However, here’s a few considerations to be mindful of: - Due to the nature of Hip2Save brand and content, the website operates 364 days out of the year. Christmas Day is the only day the site is closed for all employees. Additionally, there are "blackout" dates where employees are unable to request time-off. ** This was openly and clearly communicated during the interview process. Neither have been an issue for me to-date. In all honesty, the holiday season is one of the most lively and fun times as a Hip employee! Non-exempt employees scheduled to work full days on holidays (as defined in the employee handbook), are paid an additional holiday stipend. Christmas Day is a paid holiday. - Remain flexible and receptive to change. The content and target audience of H2S are dynamic and will continue to evolve with the shifting trends and needs of the business. This is not necessarily a negative, but again, something to be mindful to ensure that your personality aligns well with this.
