Pros
HealthMarkets has been wonderful experience! It's not for everyone but it is a profession worth sticking through if you can see the light at the end of the tunnel. I love this career because I get to help individuals, families, and small businesses have a piece of mind with insurance and our supplemental policies. It doesn't even feel like work. My Dad always told me "love what you do, it won't feel like work," and that is what HealthMarkets feels like to me. Being 100% commission is not easy. You have to want to work and be highly motivated. Yes, you are calling leads on the phone, going to networking groups, talking to folks, obtaining clients, building your book of business. The company provides you leads and all the resources that you need to be successful. It's up to you ! Yes, you have to attend meetings the first year, but they are for your benefit. Health Markets is way ahead on the technology by far. No other company has the capability that HM has. The company is constantly evolving to fit agents and healthcare reform. Stick with the winners and remain close to your sales leaders the first year or two. This job has change my life. It allows for wonderful flexibility in the work, home balance life. I am here to stay! Very proud to be apart of something so wonderful!
Cons
Training is the main thing the company needs to improve on, at least in my territory. We use a very complex system called the CRM, and it's intimidating, but even at that the company put out a phone number for that. They need standard uniform training for all agents moving forward across the board. There aren't benefits with the company but they do have a stock plan, and you will get residuals eventually for the policies that you write and stay enforced.
