Pros

Health Catalyst is one of those rare companies that is primarily motivated by making a positive difference in people's lives. Employees find a real sense of purpose here, rather than being lost in a big corporate machine, unsure of the impacts you are making as an individual. The icing on the cake is how well Health Catalyst treats their employees. They selectively hire humble people who are both smart and hardworking. After you join the Health Catalyst team the benefits are second to none, I can't think of another place I'd rather work. The extreme level of employee engagement is real.

Cons

Health Catalyst has a bit of a decentralized employee base, with Salt Lake City being the headquarters. If you happen to be one of the many remote workers, having the feeling of being connected to the larger employee base can be a challenge, but that is not specific to Health Catalyst. Even so - they are mindful of this, and try to create opportunities for remote staff to feel connected.

Thanks for your thoughts and compliments, we know its hard work to keep this culture going, and it requires concentrated effort from every team member for it to be both sustainable and productive. We are not perfect here-- far from it (as anyone who works here knows :), but the magic comes from the fact that most of the people are working for and motivated by our common goals most of the time (we all have bad days occasionally, and we all make mistakes). Thanks to you and everyone else that recognizes that this is a group effort!

Pros

Great Talent & Culture: The people here are highly capable, collaborative, and committed to helping each other succeed. The partnership between onshore and offshore teams works well and is a real strength. There’s a culture of grit and stability that has helped the company navigate multiple major transitions over the years. Mission-Critical Engineering: The work involves complex data infrastructure that requires deep technical expertise. It can be demanding, but seeing these systems run successfully and support real-world operations is consistently rewarding.

Cons

Wage Compression and Retention Risk: Compensation for tenured and high-performing staff has not kept pace with the market for specialized data engineering and support leadership. In practice, tenure can feel undervalued or even penalized. This creates risk around losing institutional knowledge and operational continuity. Stagnant Career Progression: Contrary to stated expectations, strong performance ratings do not consistently translate into meaningful, market-aligned compensation growth. The process of how compensation is benchmarked lacks clarity in practice, obscuring how compensation decisions are made and what is required to advance.
