Pros

good salary when you get hired

Cons

Its a boys club. Especially in Analytics. You thought Mad Men Culture was a thing from the 50's and 60s? It is well and alive here in 2020. There is little opportunity for women to advance into true leadership roles ( you know outside of " female" specialties like HR, Marketing or Change Management) especially in Analytics where the tie-in with revenue is less obvious so you can't advance on the pure metrics of business wins. Women are made to do all the work, yet don't get invited to key meetings, don't get any credit and definitely don't get any decision power. If you get any speaking roles in key meetings at all, they will be scripted by your male boss- so that they can parade you as a " token." I hate to even think about how much worse it must be for women and minorities of color. No matter your job title (even an MD or SVP), if you are a woman your job will be as some sort of secretary or other tasked to do work the men won;t do. The men need a " mommy" to keep them organized, to create their decks, deal with their employees etc. And throughout, you better smile and flatter the men and be " diplomatic" lest you want to be labeled as having an " attitude problem", " bad cultural fit", or my favorite - " poor people & relationship skills, so not management or promotion material ."

There is no limit on how far our colleagues can go, and there is zero room in our organization for discrimination of any kind. We know that the best ideas and innovations often come from challenging the status quo, so we encourage our colleagues to speak freely and never want our colleagues to feel they are limited to talk tracks or scripts while speaking to clients or leaders internally. The type of environment you described is not condoned or accepted at Guy Carpenter and we expressly prohibit all forms of such disruptive behavior.
