Pros

The Guild for Human Services is staffed with people who genuinely care about helping individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities live fulfilling lives. The employees are supportive of one another, and I haven't seen any instance of neglect.

Cons

With that being said, this job will physically and emotionally exhaust you on most days. Yes, they are fun moments with the students. However, you will be forced to restrain students who are ill-behaved every single week. Students will often refuse to follow directions unless prompted. The educational quality at the school is rather mediocre. To be fair, this isn't the fault of the educators or The Guild. Most of these students don't have the capabilities to undergo a rigorous learning process, and the teacher assistants are glorified babysitters. They rarely learn anything in the classroom, and social interaction amongst the students is entirely nonexistent in some classrooms. As a result, this job can be immensely frustrating at times.

Pros

Great teammates/staff at every level! Supportive and Ethical Administration including folks in HR and Finance. Well-kept facilities. Staff live the mission for the most part. The work can be hard, but most staff are there for the right reasons. Great benefits!

Cons

Like all Human Services organizations, they tend to struggle to be competitive on pay.

Pros

School and Residential staff truly care for the students. Despite no actual learning materials or real educational guidance from qualified staff they do everything they can to make the students happy. The students are all gems and they are the reason people work here,

Cons

Very little clinical oversight. The clinical staff are spread so thin that they can’t properly support the students and they have no time to provide staff training. Students spend most of the day doing nothing in dark classrooms with zero stimulation. This school reminds me of the movie Blackfish - and that is the most horrible thing I have ever said about a school. Leadership is in a bubble and HR is for the most part, under qualified. Most of the school is staffed with unlicensed staff and I am assuming that is finically reinforced. The kids are BORED. Training for new direct staff is completely lacking in what you need to know to be successful which creates a cycle of injury, neglect and pervasive staff shortages. Staff are injured on a daily basis which is alarming. I would not recommend this place to anyone unless you want to create a negligence report.
