Great colleagues overshadowed by high turnover and poor management - Associate Gordon & Rees Employee Review

Pros

My fellow associates were great.

Cons

Insane associate turnover rate in this office, even for an insurance defense firm. Over 80 percent turnover rate among associates in two years. One of the partners is particularly difficult to work with, and the firm engages in practices that I would call retaliatory. There is no mentorship despite the firm actively recruiting attorneys with limited (or no) firm experience. I would not recommend this job to my enemies.

Pros

Respected firm, objective bonus is nice on top of discretionary bonuses.

Cons

Lots of bureaucracy and the help that's promised is rarely actually available.

Pros

The Minneapolis office is a growing office with great opportunities for associates to get hands on involvement with depositions, motion practice and trials. I found my supervising partner to be a great mentor and person. She cared about me as a person and lawyer. I loved my time at Gordon Rees, but left for increased compensation.

Cons

Less than market pay. Senior associate laterals who were cliquey and sophomoric.
