If you like slave labor and aloof upper management... - Store Manager Goodwill Employee Review

Pros

My coworkers were great. They all worked extremely hard for very little above minimum wage. The customers were great and it was fun seeing the interesting donations we would receive.

Cons

Hard work that doesn't pay off. Our store was extremely short staffed (we had five employees at one time) yet senior management expected us to produce just as much as larger, better staffed stores. They did not communicate with us and when they did, it was vague and unhelpful. Hands down, the most stressful job I have ever had (and I have been Store Manager at three businesses in my life). Also, they refuse to hire people with even the slightest disability at fair wages. A man who was only physically impaired (in a wheelchair) applied to work for us and I attempted to hire him under the regular pay code. I was advised I would have to hire him as vocational (and pay him far less than minimum wage). I told my manager that he was not mentally impaired, and I felt that would be offensive to him. She told me not to hire him at all then.
