Pros

Good office location. Lin-Manuel Miranda sometimes comes by. Snacks.

Cons

Toxic, exploitative, racist. This company treats employees of color, and junior employees in general, extremely poorly. Turnover for employees of color is extremely high due to tokenization, lack of upward mobility, and an extreme lack of diversity and cultural competence in the office. With a few exceptions, the leadership is aloof, and the vast majority of managers director level and up are not interested in mentoring and professional development of direct reports. Some are neglectful of even their own accounts, leaving junior staff to do the majority of the work. They will ask you what you're interested in doing to expand your skillset, and tell you what you need to accomplish to get a raise or a promotion, but there is no rhyme or reason to how they evaluate staff, what projects they put you on, or who gets promoted or when. Several staff I've known prior to and during my time at GSG reported feeling gaslighted, burnt out, and exploited. This is because the company is not making their profit goals so is willing to take on scores of low-retainer clients and work their managers, senior associates, and associates to the bone - yet it hasn't helped their bottom line; it's only destroyed staff morale. The worst part of this is that you learn nothing; they drill in "the GSG way" of doing things but it's not useful once you leave GSG. I've gone on to a few more positions after this and have been 1000% happier and learned 1000x more than I did at GSG. I would strongly recommend not working here, unless you are fine working crazy hours for not a lot of pay, and are interested in polling and research for a year-long stint at a firm that, despite all of its inner dysfunction, manages to have a pretty good reputation. Just get ready to deal with a lot of smoke and mirrors, nepotism, and double-standards.

Pros

Good benefits, lots of smart people, staff is nice, really interesting work and clients.

Cons

Lack of proper training and resources for associates and junior staff, despite high expectations. Managers can oversee your work/accounts, but do not meaningfully develop you. If your manager is busy—which everyone is—client work will be prioritized over you. There is little tolerance for the learning curve, and if you struggle within the first few months, you may be terminated for not being a “good fit.” Employees are expected to be available outside normal work hours, partly due to the culture and partly because of the nature of the industry. You will be working past 6pm most days.
