Pros
Flexibility - Able to use PTO without much advanced notice. This is ideal for people with children. Work hours are also flexible; the workday can began as early as 6:00am or as late as 10:00am. Employees can also work alternative schedules such as 9 or 10 hour days in addition to the standard 8 hour day. Teleworking is also allowed after being on the job for a year.
Cons
Salary - The salary is absolutely deplorable. Being that it's a state agency, raises are only given out when the governor approves raises for state employees. Environmental Engineers are paid around 10% more than Environmental Compliance Specialist even though both have the same duties. Career Development - There is no opportunity for career growth or development. Career growth can only be achieved when someone retires. Most people at EPD retire around 25-30 years of service. Newer employees go years without seeing any kind of advancement. Newer EPD employees also won't be able to make what the current senior employees are making due to EPD not handing out raises regularly. Employees who were hired before 2005 saw 2% raises each year, but then not so regularly after that date. EPD staffers last received a 2% raise in 2016; it had been 8 years since the last raise.
