Pros
If you're into the type of workplace where your private life melds with your work life, then this is the place for you! You, too, can be part of the dysfunctional family of your dreams. If you want to do absolutely everything in the restaurant and be everywhere at the same time, then this is the job for you. They are gay-friendly and mostly not ageist. Pay is good
Cons
Multiple narcissists work here and you get to hear all about who has slept with whom in the restaurant. So if you're a private person who values professionalism-warning! Management drinks with the staff and contributes to the dysfunctional/unprofessional atmosphere here. They prioritize staff that has worked here forever (including the 20 yo's) and basically doesn't care about what new staff has to say. They are not open to ideas about how to do things better, and they are constantly running out of supplies. This is a highly male-dominated atmosphere. The male management listens more to what the male staff have to say. There is lack of communication between BOH and FOH, and BOH doesn't value the challenges that FOH faces. They insist that servers do EVERYONE's job, as if serving wasn't enough. This leads to burnout and injuries and an incredibly high turnover of servers. Lack of clear job roles for FOH (see burnout, above). They make sections for the servers but then encourage you to 'help' other sections which leads to chaos and neglected customers pretty frequently. People often just chat with their co-workers instead of doing their actual jobs even when things are incredibly busy.
