Pros
Steady growth garnered the attention of high-profile investors. As a result, we now have a nice office and benefits. There are a few good people still here, but that has changed this year as most are now gone.
Cons
Gather has a tight-knit core of underqualified employees that will do whatever it takes to stay "on top". These people hold senior positions and hire others that are similar to them so the cycle repeats. Work is like an episode of Mean Girls with fake smiles, jockeying, sabotage, and underhanded office gossip. To an outsider, Gather appears to be a progressive startup that cares about culture, but they have conflated culture with celebrations and entertainment. Prepare to become isolated and treated as an outsider if you aren't like them. The positive culture is a facade - I've seen 5-10 well-written negative Glassdoor reviews taken down over the last six months. The greatest blindspot for Gather is the lack of qualified people managers who care enough about others to acknowledge the toxicity and reign it in - instead the exec team pretends it doesn't exist and covers it up by removing reviews or even people. I wish someone would have posted an honest review before I started working here.
