Pros

A little extra income from home, a little easier to achieve a work life balance, many of the children are great

The company treats teachers badly. I've been working there 3 years and have consistently received top reviews from clients, I also have a Masters Degree and quite a bit of experience, but the company does not care about any of this (I am currently searching for different employment). I have had numerous problems with this company, most recently they leveraged a complaint against me for leaving a session early (I did not) and suspended my account (Supposedly for 7 days), a week and a half later and the account has yet to be reactivated. No one has given me an explanation and no one from the company usually responds when you contact them in respect to these issues. In the rare event they do, many times the language barrier will be such that they're not really understanding or responding to your questions or concerns and its incredibly frustrating. There is no transparency , they don't appear to follow any sort of HR legal policy in terms of employee rights, and there seems to be a lot of disorganization. I've even had their HR department reaching out trying to recruit me as a new teacher WHILE my account is sitting here under suspension. On several occasions they have arbitrarily made charges on my pay that do not fall within the guidelines stated in their policies and when I've inquired as to what they are (again - no response). Moreover, this is not a job that will support you or provide enough consistency to plan your personal finances around. There is simply not that much money in it, especially for the amount of energy you are expected to put in. It can also be very draining as the company is consistently packing 25 minute class with 4-6 children in order to maximize their profits and minimize the amount they have to pay teachers. You frequently have to improvise and make up your own material on the fly, either because of lack of material for the lesson provided or because they submit inappropriate material for the students being taught (on several occasions I have been provided with adult material that ranges from topics like the business etiquette of smoking to foreign investments for 45 minute classes of six -year olds (again, complaints and queries about this go unanswered and you are left holding the bag). That said, no matter what happened during class, you will be at fault. If a child complains or a parent complains because perhaps they don't fully understand the lesson that is being delivered and its purpose (or they don't like it), you will be the one penalized for it. To that end, the more sessions you work the more you actually put yourself at risk because regardless of how well you do, or how many great students you might have, you're bound to come across a difficult student/parent/lesson from time to time and if that happens, so help you because this company simply doesn't value their teachers. Sadly, responses to these review postings appear to be the only time any feigned concern for teacher grievances is elicited out of their staff.

Pros

Pay was reasonable, gained relevant & diverse experience, schools/staff were mostly easy to work with

Cons

No benefits, depending on the school you are working with there can be little communication or understanding of a virtual teacher's unique needs, no guaranteed work (for Virtual Staffing you might know if you are assigned a school in July at the earliest], long periods with no available jobs; contract work & taxes
