Pros
Fast Growth: There’s no denying that Free Soul offers rapid growth opportunities. You get exposed to various aspects of the business quickly (although sharing information between departments can be difficult) which can be a great learning curve if you thrive in fast-paced environments.
Cons
- Lack of Leadership Training: The company does little to prepare its employees for leadership roles. When you’re promoted or move into positions of responsibility, you’re expected to figure it out on your own without the formal training or mentoring you might need.
- Punitive Culture: I experienced being made to feel guilty for leaving work exactly on time. While most workplaces respect a work-life balance, at Free Soul it seems to be frowned upon.
- Misplaced Recognition: During performance appraisals, recognition is often given for simply being present for long hours rather than actual, effective output.
- Culture vs. Reality: Despite the positive online persona and social events touted by senior management, the on-ground reality can feel quite different. The image of a vibrant, caring company often masks a culture where rigid office hours and unrealistic expectations take centre stage.
- Fear of sharing information: the founder is very restrictive with sharing information and it can lead to difficulties doing your role.
