Lack of diversity and inclusion in upper management. Leadership allows bullies in upper management positions, people without skills who lead by fear. Employees not given ability to grow or develop Disorganized as the company grows it will become even more of a mess

Pros

Staff that you work with day-to-day are usually some of the kindest, hardworking people you will meet. A good emphasis on work-life balance for middle management. Well connected and opens the opportunity to work with various community partners and other non-profits, if you’re looking to further your reach in those spheres. Working with residents can be rewarding, especially as you navigate relationships and build trust with them.

Cons

Upper management has had very little to no change over the past decade, creating a click culture — if you aren’t accepted by this culture, opportunities will be slim-to-none for growth. Even though employees are encouraged to take time off and utilize self-care to balance working with challenging residents, when there are situations that concern staff safety, there often isn’t a lot of support until it literally escalates to physical violence. Lack of support for employees of color, who are often victims of racist language used by residents. Pay is way less than working in conventional property management but the emotional demand is way higher.
