Cons

I had a disappointing experience working at Fleetio. During my interview, I was promised guidance and mentorship throughout my time there, but that was far from the reality. It became evident that these were merely empty words meant to entice potential employees. One of the major issues I encountered was the lack of proper coaching and support. When I didn't complete tasks exactly as my former manager wanted them, instead of providing constructive guidance and mentoring, they simply took over and completed the work themselves. This not only hindered my growth but also created a frustrating environment where I felt powerless to learn and improve. What added to my disappointment was the blatant dishonesty within the company. I was repeatedly told that everything was going well when it clearly wasn't. This lack of transparency eroded trust and left me feeling disconnected from the team. Additionally, I was misled about the company's commitment to professional development. I was promised support for my career growth, but in reality, it was minimal at best. There were no tangible efforts to help me enhance my skills or advance within the company. In conclusion, my time at Fleetio was marked by unfulfilled promises, a lack of mentorship, and a dishonest work environment. It's disheartening when a company fails to live up to its commitments, and Fleetio, in my experience, fell short in multiple ways. I must clarify that my negative experience at Fleetio was primarily attributed to my interactions with my former managers. I believe the company as a whole is not inherently bad, and it does have strong leadership at the top. The issues I encountered were localized to specific individuals within the management team, and I don't want to generalize this to the entire organization. While I faced challenges with mentorship, transparency, and professional development, I acknowledge that these issues may not be representative of everyone's experience at Fleetio. It's possible that other teams and departments within the company have different work cultures and management styles. In summary, my personal experience with Fleetio was marred by difficulties with my former managers, but I do not want to cast a negative shadow over the entire company, as there may be positive aspects and opportunities for growth that others have encountered.

Pros

What’s great about Fleetio is the combination of a strong culture, a product I’m proud of, a market opportunity that feels significant, and coworkers who genuinely want each other to succeed. There is a lot of room to grow, both as a company and as an employee. Expectations are high, but I’ve never felt like I was expected to figure things out alone. In the past, at other companies, I've experienced quite political and internally competitive work environments, and Fleetio could not be further from that.

Cons

The company is growing in a healthy way, which naturally means things change and not every decision is perfect. But its no more change than any other high-growth company. Communication around priorities could be stronger but I have also seen that improve in the last year.

Pros

The company is regularly setting and making goals - we achieved and got record bonuses last year. The market has been changing and the company adjusts goals to suit instead of getting stuck. This didn't happen for years and things were starting to struggle with scale. Leadership has shown they're capable of making difficult decisions to correct that. Most unhappy folks I hear is that it's not "the old Fleetio" - which is true. We're a very different company at $100m+ than most folks who were here from $1-10m and don't want any change are experiencing.

Cons

It's a rapid-growth company and going through all of the common growing pains companies at this size does. I'll say they're handling it better than most any other company I've been at that has gone through this.
