Pros

Flexible with your schedule, good pay for the work, had fun with kids, gained valuable experience that looks good on a resume.

Cons

Sometimes it was unorganized and they would switch schools last minute, which would be 20-30 minutes away and uncompensated for gas.

Pros

Great work schedule for part time college students. You can work from 7-9 am and either 2-530 or 315-530 pm. That way you can fit classes and studying in between. You also have weekends off since you are working directly in the schools in the before and after school program. Good pay for the job title as a teacher assistant. If you have fun and dependable coworkers and site supervisors you will really like this job as I did!! You will be working with kids in grades Kindergarten thro 5th grade. So if you like kids you will like this job!! How much you like the job will depend on teamwork, cooperation by the kids, and the trust held between site supervisors and teacher assistants. I personally had a great experience working with Family Service but i know others who did not.

Cons

Upper management and program supervisors are unorganized and not very supportive of site supervisors which is why i didnt want to pursue a full time position there as a site supervisor. I heard a lot about the poor communication and unprofessionalism by program supervisors that it honestly drove me away from continuing with this organization. Site supervisors do not get paid well enough for what they do and have to put up with when they do not have supportive management backing them up. I also heard the organization can be very kl-icky which is something I didnt personally experience as a teacher assistant but heard about thro my site supervisors.
