Pros

Competitive compensation and benefits Great office location and plenty of free food Great off-sites and holiday party

Cons

Extole is full of hardworking people that are horribly mismanaged by a field of executives who don't know how to communicate or direct them. There is such an emphasis on Customer Acquisition that the actual product is neglected. Design, creativity, and new ideas are never considered. It's all about selling and churn avoidance. Working in the office it does feel like high school where cliques are well defined and you can easily feel on the outside without any support.

Extole Response

Four years later and I still find this one tough to read. But it was a wakeup call to me (the CEO). We are now larger, profitable, and have very high culture and satisfaction ratings. I believe it was a huge "one team" effort that got us there, and I also know that I had to grow as an individual for us to mature as a team. I thank all of the reviewers who wrote thoughtful, direct comments in 2016. You woke us up, and we are better for it.

Pros

Good company culture, promotes collaboration. I enjoyed working with the engineering and product teams. You'll probably work with people that you really like here. Server code is pretty well architected. The product is generally good - extremely customizable, but very technical. Pay was acceptable.

Cons

Leadership is concerning, their disagreements and resentments toward one another are not hidden from the company at all, which doesn't exactly inspire confidence. The company has been around for a long time (~10 years) and has not gone public or been sold. We seemed to be on the edge of profitability for a long time, I have no idea if there was interest from potential buyers. There was a round of layoffs in 2023 which followed months of the CEO reporting how "well" we were doing, so that came as a shock. Since the product can be so customized, we basically sold any use case we could, which lead to some highly technical customizations that frequently broke and caused a massive amount of stress to all involved.
