My direct supervisor was extremely abusive to the team.
- She regularly demeaned people publicly. She would scream at us in meetings.
- She also screamed at others in meetings where there were no People above her level in attendance. She also cursed excessively and was very aggressive in her speech.
- Since she joined, there have been at least 3 HR complaints filed against her for her verbal abuse and bullying.
- Leadership did nothing about these complaints. As long as she painted herself as a fixer for projects, she was free to act as badly as she wanted to those below her in the hierarchy.
- She put an employee on a performance improvement plan without telling said employee.
- She called HR to do a wellness check with an employee’s emergency contact when employee wasn’t answering her work related text messages on a day off.
- Manager wasn’t ever clear on her expectations and expected us to read her mind as to how she would have done the project. Employees would then get screamed at and belittled after the project.
After I left, this manager was promoted and given responsibility over more people. So that should be all you need to know about the type of people who are valued.
