Pros

Management The CEO and CTO are great guys, young at heart, with clear passion for the product & success of the company. Upper middle management are doing a great job, with the exception of only a few. Product Emesent has an interesting technology, exciting to work with & an easy showcase. A passionate team of engineers lead the way in 3D mapping & autonomy with some of the most superior brains in the industry. Emesent create stunning output, changing the virtual world. Culture A mostly respectful inter-staff culture with loads of diversity. Great coffee machine. Fun location close to restaurants & bars with lively friday drinks & occasional kick-ons. A young demographic who promote healthy lifestyle choices. Excellent work flexibility with 1-2 days in office if necessary which is great for family. Location Close to restaurants & cafes, public transport. River views.

Cons

Management The CEO is an engineer without solid business acumen. The CTO rules tough and struggles to hear better judgement. I didn't meet the President as he never, or rarely, visited our office (next door). Since his arrival Emesent lost a large percentage of staff, workload amplified & sales dropped. Product Issues were ongoing. Lack of cohesione between teams. Wavering customer satisfaction. Targets forever changing so good luck achieving them. Staff High staff turnover, low job security & staff retention. They struggle to retain good talent. Staff expressed seeing out their shares & many looking elsewhere for work. Staff are disposable. Good luck getting reasonable pay for your efforts. Culture Hollow corporate jargon was sanitising the authentic culture. Much gossip & rumor with leaks seeming to come through management & assistants.

Pros

I had a great time on an (extended) three-month contract with Emesent. They are a global leader in their field of 3D imaging and autonomous navigation, and have a host of PhDs and talented tech folk working there. As an experienced contractor, I've seen the inside of plenty of businesses, and Emesent is a stand out for the positive, supportive high-performing culture. They employ an array of technologists from robotics and mechanics, to software and beyond. I love that they can offer local tertiary graduates a start in the professions that will only grow in importance to the wider economy. I would encourage anyone to seek a role there, if you think you can match their standards and culture. Great culture starts at the top, and I'm impressed by Emesent's engaging and passionate exec and management teams. They've hired the right people who model respectful, inclusive, productive behavior with their teams, and strongly support career development.

Cons

There's much change happening at Emesent, as they adjust the company's direction and the teams they need. So while there seems to be much room for career development in a successful, growing company, and I saw many examples of role progression at Emesent, they seem to have fairly brisk staff turn-over, and many new employees working hard to get up to speed on the complex products and market. So lots of opportunities to develop new skills and experience (and work in a fab team environment), but not the strongest record of job stability.
