Pros

A stable salary and healthcare benefits (but the dental sucks). Keep looking for another job if you work here and use it for the salary and benefits if you can't get that anywhere else.

Cons

the administration and corporate office are seriously out of touch. We had a town hall meeting the other day for all employees and the Ecotech management. A high-earning board member got up to give us a motivational speech. In defense of our concerns about why we hadn't gotten raises in over two years, he launched into a story about how there's always someone else who has it worse than you. As if that wasn't motivation enough, then he proceeds to tell a story (which was supposed to be funny, but was just pitiful) about how we are all salespeople to the students there. We should all feel like we are owners of the place and pass that excitement on to every student we see. To underline his point about how important salesmanship was to get people engaged and buying your product, he talks about how he recently bought an $800.00 washing machine even though he could have gone out and gotten a $200 or $300 machine instead. So why did he buy the $800.00 washing machine? Because he loved the enthusiasm of the salesman at the store. Because the salesman really got him excited and engaged, to the point where he had to have that machine and none other. This little motivational speech was alienating to all employees there and management didn't even get it. How many of us are able to go out and buy $800.00 washing machines? For that matter, how many of us are able to easily replace any appliance in our homes that break down (and not have it be a huge impact to our personal budgets)? Many employees there are working 2 jobs just to make ends meet for their families, and all we get for it is a speech about how we should be thankful we're not in worse shape, and how we should push ourselves to sell the company (which, by the way, pays all the people telling us to do that pretty darn well -- but not us).

Pros

Everyone at this place on site in Aurora CO (admin, staff, faculty) is top notch, supportive and brilliant . An amazing team that can accomplish amazing things....like helping disabled Vets nearly homeless on the streets getting wind and solar jobs that pay well.

Cons

If you are "staff" (admin, admissions, FAFSA) keep building your resume, because you are likely to get laid off at any time with no warning. Not from local Ecotech, from ECA in Alabama. Librarian - position eliminated, now full-time faculty have to work extra hours to cover in the library. Student Services - Position eliminated. Career services, cut down to 1 person. FAFSA - cut down. New policy - we had too many copy/print machines, cut down from 8 to 3. Students no longer have a copy machine in the library, and faculty copy/print machines went from 2 to 1.....now when it breaks there is no backup other than printing your student assignments at the UPS store down the road and paying for it out of your pocket. Completely failed admin system, some professors have to buy their own lab supplies out of pocket. Expect last-minute schedule changes that destroy your vacation plans, "sorry that you already paid for that vacation, nothing we can do." None of this comes from local at Ecotech, this pile of crap is dropped upon these great people from a bunch of folks in Alabama who have never taught a class in their lives.
