Pros
Reasonable pay. Crappy bonus scheme for Route Managers. Expected to perform as Territory Managers, but only get 20% of the bonus! Ability to manage your own schedule for time off during normal work day etc. If you are prepared to suck up, and ride a motorcycle, you could do well.
Cons
No home/work balance. You are constantly on call with no benefit. Every fourth weekend you cover your own and up to 6 other reps customers. It's mental. No extra pay or time off for doing so. You have to plead with others on the team to cover you for vacations. District managers are always promoted from the field, so they don't care because they used to have to work under the same crap conditions. The staff turnover is horrendous. When your team is short of people you have to "caretake" their accounts, and then get in trouble for not looking after your own!! Corporate accounts department has developed into a class of it's own. The untouchables. The company started a "Your Voice Matters" program. What a joke. They listed a whole bunch of stuff that needed to be addressed in order to improve "engagement". Trouble is, at no point did they ask any of the employees what the real problems were! Millions of dollars have been spent studying all the stuff that the company suggested, and nothing has been achieved! Oh well, it's only the shareholder's money!
