Pros

EN Engineering provides an opportunity to work within the natural gas industry, which is a vastly growing industry within the energy sector. Ability to take on large responsibilities from day one. Depending on department, client, and project manager, you may learn industry standard knowledge more in-depth.

Cons

Considerably understaffed throughout departments, leading to very heavy workloads assigned to all individuals (Base level to upper management). In many cases, it is nearly impossible to meet internal and external deadlines without consistent 50-60 hour workweeks. Employees need to document all internal verbal communications, mostly with management, because they will frequently contradict themselves then blame you for errors. Employee retention methods are non-existent, or not working. Many have started looking for new jobs elsewhere for reasons mentioned above.

Pros

Flexible working hours and location - come into the office 1 day/wk or less Chicago office has a gym and nice building

Cons

I was told that I would be a Project Engineer, but management decided to downgrade my role to Design Engineer I without informing me. I was given only positive feedback, only to find out when leaving that I was not meeting expectations. No formal performance review process from HR. Pay is below industry standard. Had several HR complaints about team members becoming angry when trying to learn new concepts, sending inappropriate messages, and not providing the training they promised. If you want a role in a stable industry that does not offer much in terms of social interactions or career growth, this is a reasonable role. If you want to achieve more, feel valued, and feel comfortable in the workplace, look elsewhere.
