Pros
A historic, Black-owned company. The opportunity to be part of a brand that holds deep meaning for many people.
Cons
Competitors are far ahead when it comes to content production, IRL activations, and online community building. Leadership was lacking, with egos and individuals who talked a lot but rarely executed. Sales leadership, in particular, was not good and a just very cringe overall. Many team members, particularly those with a background in traditional media were applying outdated strategies that didn’t translate well to a digital-first environment. There was a noticeable shortage of innovators who understood the current digital media landscape. Lastly, the company culture was disjointed, with little camaraderie among employees, and it often felt like there was a hidden undercurrent of tension.
