Pros

Great colleagues, flexible working and once-weekly working from home opportunities offered. I was lucky to have brilliant managers who knew their stuff and were always on hand for support, knowledge and sound advice. In turn, they showed me a real respect which was deeply appreciated and made me feel valued in my role. No micromanaging, which was a huge plus for me as I work much better when left to it and not having a manager breathing down my neck. Good training opportunities available to anyone who wanted them. I would be very happy and grateful to work for Digartref again.

Cons

Career progression was limited, though this was likely down to funding available. Would also argue that pay was too low for the responsibilities expected of us, again this is down to funding and not necessarily something Digartref as a charity can control. Only had one bad experience during my time there by a manager from another project to mine, whose role didn’t include managing me whatsoever and with whom I had minimal contact; one of their staff members was on leave, so I happily agreed to cover their workload as well as my usual caseload, and this manager expected me to give up my evenings to ensure I could fit in the extra workload! They were very defensive and hostile when I reasoned this was asking a bit much. This was not something my actual managers would ever have endorsed or asked me to do, unless for good reason and likely in return for time off in lieu. For this reason alone, I would rate 4* for work/life balance instead of 5* as it was an unpleasant experience. But thankfully, an isolated one.
