Great benefit and retirment plan. Excellent opportunity to learn different aspects of the legal system. Ability to learn how to handle various situations and people.

Shift work and various schedule changes. May not be a lot of upward mobility. Limited to inmate management and not able to patrol or other typical law enforcement duties.

good pay some coworkers will be your best friends.

the retirement is on the rule of 75 IAB is insane... sheriffs get time off for legit just doing their job and following policy. deputies sometimes have to wait and unreasonable about of time for a bathroom break (2 weeks ago a deputy peed her pants on post due to not getting a break) no tuition refurbishment (only offered at colorado technical university-no thanks). there is no work life balance. you will work at least two days of mandatory overtime every week, that's a 14 hour shift. it ruins your day. the rumor mill here is insane- there is a rumor about me being involved in something when i wasn't even posted near the place this occurred. it's legit impossible for me to have been there. good old boy system/favoritsm- be ready to kiss butt to get any good post or promote. this place is a riot waiting to happen, if this i was a prison population of inmates a riot would have already happened. in addition to all these cons this field makes you more likely to get a divorce, have substance abuse issues and you will lose an average of 15 years off of your life- so i guess that rule of 75 is irrelevant cause you won't live long enough.
