Pros

The plant had some really great people who work incredibly hard in very challenging conditions.

Cons

Chronic understaffing. My $400M+plant had a finance staff of 3. Software was ancient so reporting was manual. They justified it by saying that GL, AR and AP were centralized at Corporate but that was joke, plant Controllers had manage them remotely or issues didn’t get fixed. 14+hr days were normal because after spending 6+ hours a days in meetings, you still had actual work to get done. BU Controller who oversaw 6 US plants was TOXIC every one of those plants had at least 1 Controller quit in the time I was there. Operations was similarly understaffed. One Customer service, materials, shipping, receiving and scheduling departments were all assigned to one manager

Pros

Hard to be fired, good benefits, double time Sundays.

Cons

No room to grow. Pay scale is a tier system based on a union contract that we negotiate every 3-5 years and the raises are never more than a dollar or two. They offer apprenticeships that you only get if you are related to someone and have some kind of friend up front. Qualifications mean nothing you learn more you do more and get paid less than then the tier 1 employees which makes the newer highers also not want to work so you will be in limbo working harder for nothing.
