Pros

Build customer service skills and other soft skills.

Cons

Company treats their workforce like children. Big emphasis on metrics, customer reviews, pushing credit cards and the rewards program without incentivizing employees beyond fear of punishment. While I worked there they rolled out the equivalent of a gold star or smiley face system, similar to the kinds you have in Kindergarden, to increase performance and service scores. All while paying minimum wage and not increasing pay for high performers. They force you into trying to persuade and trick people into signing up for high interest credit cards. They do give you a $2 commission but that is insultingly low. Their attendance policy is so stringent that if you clock in a minute late you are automatically written up. They can potentially fire you for clocking in late too many times from a manager being slow to open up the door on a night shift. This is controlled by corporate and there is little control at a property level so good luck disputing it. No holiday pay, very little actual incentives. Most roles are all part time so they don't have to pay you benefits while having you work just enough to not qualify for full time. Annual merit increases are pitiful. Expected to have a pretty open availability even though it's part time. Being naive I worked very hard to go above and beyond while working there. I always took on extra projects and tried to push their metrics for store performance. I was offered a five cent increase when reviews came around. Big slap in the face. After that I stopped trying as hard. I'm sure many others have similar experiences. The customers that shop there are also terrible for retail. People balk at some of the prices and are always demanding coupons and discounts. People realize they are about to drop hundreds of dollars on little Timmy's baseball equipment and take it out on the employees. Walmart gets all the attention for bad labor practices and mistreating employees but this is WORSE. I really didn't realize truly how bad I was being treated until I started a profession and worked for a company that actually meets basic standards of corporate decency. You can't even write the companies name in the review because Glassdoor says it bad language. That's how bad this company is.

Pros

Employee Discount Opportunity to provide customers an experience in which they can be confident in buying a new shoe for style, function and support-related reasons. Great selling tools, devices and display fixtures to work with

Cons

This is not really a con since I believe it is an important part of the job. Newer and current workers may need to keep up up to date and do research on products in order to be able to help customers effectively and efficiently.

Pros

- Unlimited PTO with 401k match is awesome

Cons

- Performance expectations were often unclear or inconsistently communicated, Feedback was reactive instead of timely and actionable. - Leadership quality varied dramatically by manager, with limited coaching or mentorship. - Constant shifting priorities without adjusting expectations or workload. - Psychological safety was lacking, Honest communication feel risky. - Leadership messaging around culture didn't match day-to-day reality. - Process was often valued more than impact or results. - Compensation well below market, w/little flexibility during negotiations. - I felt excluded from key conversations and opportunities that were important to my success.
