Toxic and Mismanaged - Anonymous Core Laboratories Employee Review

Pros

If you must work here, do it to get your foot in the door (expect under-market pay) and move on to a better company (literally any other service or oil company) as soon as you can.

Cons

Avoid for your own sanity and career advancement. One of the reviews mentioned the company is run like it's the 1980's. Correct, but more like the 1980's Soviet Union. Cartoonishly inept and toxic management top to bottom. If you are not laid off or fired, prepare to be bullied, lied to, personally insulted and berated, asked to do illegal or unethical things while HR (which has constant turnover) and management tacitly or actively support all of these behaviors and look to silence or punish you rather than dealing with the root issues. Absolutely no planning or foresight beyond squeezing out max profit for the month /quarter. They also dump money into dead-end ego projects while starving out fundamentally sound groups, ideas, and departments. Many employees are expected to do ungodly amounts of work without basic resources, support, or training. Funny that while they do all of this, they fail at their fundamental goal of driving up the CLB stock price. (Not to mention, also largely failing to offer a decent service or product, which isn't really a primary focus of the company anyway.) That being said, the previous C-suite/good ol' boys club certainly did achieve their goal by robbing the employees (furloughs, lack of raises, cut benefits for years) and paying themselves criminal levels of bonuses and dividends, largely off of borrowed money.

Pros

Learned a great deal about laboratory analysis and equipment. Health insurance was adequate.

Cons

Pay was far below what analysts at the competition were making. Raises were far and few, overtime was encouraged instead. Incentive to stay was low.
