Greenwashing for Profit - Associate Community Environmental Council Employee Review

Pros

Potentially a good first job for networking, if you are able to line up your next job while employed here.

Cons

This organization does not support employee growth, and instead encourages employees to resign after a year rather than negotiating a promotion. There has been immense staff turn-over the past two years as a result of this approach. The executive leadership prioritizes fundraising for an office renovation while paying associate level employees below poverty wages, yet also requires staff to relocate to Santa Barbara or Ventura county - two of the most expensive places to live in the US. Lower-level employees are used, required to consistently do manager level work, and then tossed if they bring it to the attention of management. The organization is utilizing climate justice language to increase revenue / as marketing, but does not fully embrace these values. Employees work as consultants on contracts for other organizations, and are paid less than 1/4 of what the organization makes off of the employee's work.

Pros

Mission-based nonprofit organization in Santa Barbara that works in various sectors providing employees diversity of projects and programs. Very organized and well-run.

Cons

The company culture doesn't pop - most employees treat the organization like a job and don't interact much outside of work.
