Pros

I worked under Erik (CEO) and he gave me tons of tools to succeed. Like they bought me this $1k course in marketing my first day in. They will invest in you, as a person. I came in when they were smallish (less than 10 people) but I was given tons of autonomy to make decisions on particular things when it came to products. Once in a while, if I scored the highest on their app I got a lunch sponsored by Centaur and we had weekly drinks + dinner + after-work activity (bowling). They put a ton of effort into their people and I saw for Erik, that people mattered to him. Very understandable boss. They're also working on products that impact people's lives so being able to speak to some users from all over the world and hear their stories was very motivating! Kira, Tom, and Gia are pretty rad too! Erik became just more than a boss. To this day we keep in touch once in a while! Great guy, great people, and an even greater mission! Speak up, this is a place that I think embraces different voices with rationale behind it.

Cons

Stronger sense of direction. At times, I felt a bit lost in regard to what we're doing. However, I'll trump the fact that they were figuring themselves out. The overarching mission was clear but the steps to get there were a bit grey. But hey, that's a start-up!

Pros

This was my first time working at a startup, so I wasn't sure what to expect. It turns out I had nothing to worry about: CentaurLabs is a rapidly-growing company where everyone does their part and more. The team is supportive, super-efficient, and transparent in all the right ways. I had two direct managers who helped shaped the progress of my work, and I felt really supported in terms of the operational processes that I needed to be successful. The company also does a great job of managing the balance between remote and non-remote employees: Boston-based employees are under zero pressure to come into the office, and remote employees visit headquarters regularly (so there are opportunities for team bonding). The work environment was very positive and encouraging, and the work itself is fast-paced and targeted. I decided to join because of my impression of how warm and supportive the team culture was, and my instincts were correct. I would recommend this company to anyone looking to get their hands dirty in an early-stage engineering or product role.

Cons

Honestly, I have no complaints from my experience-I would have happily extended my time there.
