Pros

Commission could be good if you knew how the tiers were working that month (they changed frequently). You had autonomy and opportunities depending on your level of motivation.

Cons

Commission tree changed all the time and resulted in less pay for more work. Managers would step in and take your sales when they are salaried and weren't needed. Performance dictated your status, as at any sales position. Employees often paid for situations that weren't their fault.
