Pros

despite their many, many flaws they seem to be able to hire extremely competent and likeable staff many of which i got on with immensely. Unfortunately, none of them stuck around too long as they realised what a disaster of a company this was to work for

Cons

where to begin! this place is an absolute cesspit and joining CBTax was definitely one of the biggest regrets of my professional career! They have zero compassion for their staff and feel the need to treat them like children. I'm sure their will be some form of push back on this to say I'm a false review or a liar but a quick scroll through these Glassdoor reviews should paint a very clear picture - anybody who has worked here all say the same thing zero work life balance, toxic management, unrealistic expectations, and that if you value your mental health you should definitely avoid this place like the plague! In contrast any 5 star review looks like a ChatGPT answer using all the same buzz words such as "fast pace environment" "excellent career progression" "great exposure" "fantastic office space" etc.. The actual truth of the matter is the company is run by 2 brothers who are the text book definition of narcissism with emotionally underdeveloped egos. if you want a sense of what its like working here look up the already well documented Chole White case or even the Evan Verveen case in Ireland and it should give you a peek behind the curtain as to how you'll really be treated! Furthermore, if you do, for whatever reason, decide to interview for this company a great first question to ask would be why did the entire Irish team (5 staff at the time) all walk out at the same time only 2 months after joining the company.

Thank you for your review. While the tone is certainly dramatic, we’re pleased you at least recognised the calibre and professionalism of the people we employ, many of whom continue to build successful, long-term careers with us. CBTax is a high-performance business operating in a competitive, deadline-driven sector. That reality is made clear throughout the recruitment and onboarding process. For individuals who struggle in environments that require accountability, resilience and consistent delivery, it can understandably feel overwhelming and sometimes easier to blame the organisation rather than reflect on personal fit. It’s also worth noting that anonymous reviews often rely heavily on exaggeration, selective memory and second-hand narratives. References to unrelated legal matters, former employees, or historic team movements stripped of context add little to your credibility. As for claims about leadership, expectations and culture, these are not hidden, apologised for, or diluted. We are transparent about who we are, how we operate, and the standards we expect. Many professionals value that clarity; others clearly do not. We’re comfortable with that. Not every role is for everyone and CBTax has never pretended otherwise. We wish you well in finding a workplace better aligned with your preferences and perhaps a company that would accept an apparent “technical consultant” not be able to use the correct “there” or “their”.

Pros

A few very nice people working there. A shame they’ll likely get ruined. CEO and CFO are bigggg spenders so the Xmas work do was nice, thanks! :)

Cons

A complete lack of any sort of hybrid work. It’s like a prison that you cannot escape. They prioritise their wallets over their employees happiness and mental health. The methods are questionable. When you calculate everything, you sit in a meeting with the CFO who then tells you to increase the percentages of involvement and usage just to increase the value of the claim. Totally not weird or dodgy 🤔 Overall, I’m glad I’ve left. CBTax will never appear on my LinkedIn nor my CV as itself. For the rest of my life if anyone asks me about the place I worked at during this time I will just say it was a random tax firm. If you care about yourself and your mental wellbeing it is truly not a place for you. Everyone who is not a director (weird how many of them there are now!!!) is just not respected whatsoever. They’re not real people, they do not matter to anybody who is any higher. Moving away from the management though, some staff themselves are horrid. Bullying management behind their backs, saying nasty stuff and making fun of people. It was truly like working with high schoolers.

Pros

Nice offices , supportive coworkers

Cons

While there are some capable individuals in the business, I found the overall standard of technical expertise, particularly in specialist areas, to be inconsistent. This made it difficult to have confidence in decision making and the quality of work being delivered. The leadership style was one of the biggest challenges. In my experience, it often felt superficial and, at times, undermining rather than supportive. There was a noticeable gap between how things were communicated publicly versus how people were treated behind the scenes, which created a lack of trust. Recognition and progression did not appear to be strongly linked to competence or performance. Instead, visibility and personality seemed to carry more weight, which can be frustrating in a professional services environment where technical ability should be fundamental. Workloads were demanding, with a strong emphasis on output and client delivery. Combined with limited flexibility, this contributed to an environment that felt unsustainable over time. Staff turnover was, in my view, a reflection of this. Overall, I did not find this to be a healthy or supportive working environment. Since leaving, I’ve experienced a significant improvement in both job satisfaction and how my work is valued. I would strongly encourage anyone considering joining to ask detailed questions about leadership approach, expectations, and support structures before accepting a role.
