Pros

The people at the associate level and the management level, for the most part, are great individuals and hard working. Retirement pension plans, both the new and old are quite generous. An on site cafeteria for when you don't bring a lunch.

Cons

The leadership at the insurance companies, and especially the travel insurance company, have no concept of the required resources to complete the slate of projects in plan. Some departments are so under staffed that their employees are working 60 hour weeks constantly and still are having a difficult time keeping up. And, they don't receive overtime pay either. Leadership just expects the work to be completed with no regard to what the impact of piling on more projects is doing. Career advancement opportunities are few and far between. That is of course unless you are tight with the president of insurance. He will ensure his friends get promoted while ignoring those that are being piled on with the work and actually running the business. I would avoid working at the travel insurance company. You will see little career advancement and will be expected to work excessive hours. The home and automobile insurance company is not that much better. You would also expect there would be defined roles and responsibilities. Think again.

Pros

They migrate the system to Guidewire in 2012 which is great. Location and Cafeteria is good.

Cons

Very poor leadership. There is not value for your work. They only value you if you talk sweet and are in good terms with the Sr. manager. New position get filled without new job openings and are mostly gone to Sr. Manager's friends. I've seen same person got promoted to new role twice in a year without new job opening or competition. Promotions are always a secret for obvious reason. Extremely political environment. I’ve seen some very talented analyst and developer leave this company because of office politics. No appreciation for your work, not even a simple thank you. If you dare to question the leadership, expect HR to bully you. Pay is low compared to industry. One thing that surprise me is how this company continue to win top GTA employer despite the high employee turnover rate.
