Pros

The organisation has hired well over the last few years and recruited a younger crowd who are not afraid to take a fresh approach to how things are done. Steps have been taken to make it a more open and friendly and informal working culture. Rowing is a great sport with lots of passionate staff, volunteers and athletes. The London office has a nice location by the river!!

Cons

Not a great place to work if you want a 9 to 5, Monday to Friday easy life job. There is a high work ethic expected which is not to everyone’s tastes. There is often a disconnect and tension between some staff and ‘older’ senior volunteers:- staff want to get on and modernise the sport while some of the volunteers resist change as they fear the sport changing.

Pros

Great people, hard working and passionate about what they do. Great to be involved in a sport that is achieving so much success in the international arena.

Cons

Internal communication needs to be worked on. The organisation is going through some significant changes in terms of management team structure and hopefully this will have a positive impact. Decision-making process can be a bit long winded. There needs to be more collaboration between British Rowing and the GB Rowing Team - they are currently run like two separate organisations. This is improving but too slowly. The IT systems need to be integrated, so one email for both BR and GB
