Team leaders need to do better. The work environment is bordering on toxic. Team leaders often “gently” remind sponsored staff that they are being sponsored as a way to discourage them from speaking up or during any form of conflict. There is little to no consideration for work–life balance. Staff are being given shifts Monday to Sunday, which is leading to burnout. There is also an imbalance in how employees of colour are treated compared to other staff. Team leaders are putting a large number of shifts on their own rotas, then not covering them. When a service user cancels, they send in support workers to cover their shifts instead.
