Pros

The work environment at Booj is very laid back. If you like to bring your dog in everyday and let them poop everywhere so other people have to clean it up, this is a great place for you. The owner and partner can be super accommodating if you're lucky enough to be on their good side. Some of the people that you get to work with are super friendly and great to be around. Occasionally the company provides food and holds fun outings. If you like to play pool, ping pong, or air hockey, this is also a great place.

Cons

The absolute worst part of working at Booj is you don't get paid what you're worth, it doesn't matter how much you work, what you contribute, or how long you've been there. Moving to a new company will get you at least double what Booj pays. Along with the low salary comes exceedingly long hours of being overworked, especially when it comes time to release new sites for clients. While you're working a 16 hour day, others that are working on different projects will go home at the normal time. Work 80 hours in a week and you won't see an extra dime because they don't give bonuses. To go along with that, they don't offer 401k with contributions or anything other than a little PTO and awful insurance. Booj hires anybody that wants to give project management a shot regardless of experience or education which leads to terrible organization, promises to clients that can't be made, little to no understanding of the product, and frustration to developers as they are tasked with being their babysitter and have to explain every little detail of how things actually work. To make things worse, project managers are worked like slaves which contributes to their horrible attitudes making them uneasy to work with. On average, a project manager lasts around 9 months to a year. So every time one quits, developers then have to deal with a new one and start from scratch. They all promise the clients the world which leads to unnecessary amounts of work for the rest of the team. With the two aforementioned problems comes a retention rate of pretty much 0, especially when it comes to the development teams. When I worked there, I saw more great developers leave than I could believe. Guys that were so smart and loyal that would also break their backs carrying giant work loads left constantly. It was super discouraging to see this happen and leaves you with only one option, bailing on the slowly sinking ship that is Booj. If ever another company similar to that of Booj emerges, this company will go down in flames faster than the Hindenberg. Because this is a dog friendly office, everybody with a dog brings their dog in yo freely roam the office while they work. They're constantly barking and distracting workers in other ways. The owners are generally the most irresponsible people in the building too, meaning, there's always dog waste inside with nobody taking responsibility for it and cleaning it up. I love dogs, but working at Booj makes you hate them. Finally, the product is just a giant mess and a nightmare to work on. It's eventually going to blow up and leave every company using it with nothing.

Pros

Booj is a really fun place to work. You can bring your dog if you have one. There are a lot of good, friendly, active people that work there. You can do whatever you want. This is good and bad. Sometimes it's good, but it can also be irritating to work with people who are stoned all day, including managers. Fun games such as table tennis, pool, foosball etc. Good place to work if you are just out of college and have few expenses, or if you are a marijuana enthusiast.

Cons

They seem to get rid of some good people, but will gladly keep others who are incompetent. There isn't much of an organizational structure, though there's a lot of talk about reorganization often (this can be good and bad). While there are some really great people, management seem oblivious to certain things, like the extremely low pay. They talk very proudly of the awards that they've won, they seem to think that it's a privilege to work at Booj, but they show a lot of favoritism and don't seem to mind that they pay far below market average. The biggest problem is definitely salary. A game room does not pay the bills. The company could hire much more qualified people, and improve the products drastically, if they were willing to pay an average salary (28k per year for a Project Manager is simply embarrassing). Managers are just those who have been there a long time (whether qualified or not).

As a young, growing company, we indeed struggle to pay the kind of wages that the Googles, Facebooks and other large technology companies are able to pay and who often set the industry average. There are no hidden facts; the wage and the first year's increments are agreed before any applicant accepts the job. All employees are encouraged to carve their own career path, and those who take initiative are often promoted. We often hire for junior positions and cultivate successful individuals to higher roles with more responsibility and higher pay. ` We continue to invest in our company culture and internal processes in order to provide an environment that our employees take pride in and want to be a part of. I hope you find something that fulfills your requirements better and I am sorry that we were not the ideal fit.
