Pros

The people I worked with in the production area. Everybody was great to work with. Everybody, regardless of their department, was always willing to pitch in and help. Great group of people on the shop floor. Good benefits package.

Cons

Low pay for what was expected of you. No raises. Outdated and barely functional equipment in the bindery department, but still expected to make deadlines on barely working equipment. A lot of stuff had to be done by hand: folding, stitching, etc. Workflow was held up from manager's quality checks, which were done from an untrained eye. Jobs kept getting kicked back for either no good reason, or the right equipment wasn't available. The tab cutter I operated was from the 1950's and so old they couldn't get a replacement blade--yet they complained that the tabs weren't cut clean enough. Expected to drop everything in your life and run yourself ragged with no raises or recognition. It was company policy to stay as long as they wanted you to on any given day with no notice. The environment was very volatile.

BluEdge Response

BluEdge’s pay scale is absolutely commensurate with industry standards. We are certain of this, based upon those Associates that come to us from competitive companies, taking comparable positions, at either the same or higher compensation plans. It should be noted that raises are given when merited. In fact, many raises were given to Associates during the past twelve months, based on merit, as well as promotions! With respect to the New Jersey location, BluEdge has invested tens of thousands of dollars in finishing equipment, such as folders, stitchers, welders, routers, shrink wrap machines, UV coaters, etc. New mounting & laminating equipment was purchased as well. Complementing these purchases, BluEdge has actually invested millions of dollars in printing equipment over recent years. All of these purchases enable our production capabilities to be on the leading edge of technology at all times. BluEdge follows strict quality control guidelines in all of our production facilities, and we view this as a positive position, not an interruption. We strive to reject poor quality jobs internally, based on these guidelines, so that the clients very seldom, if ever, receive inferior final products. BluEdge prides itself on being a family oriented business for well over 100 years. Associates are always treated fairly and compassionately. This is exemplified by the great number of Associates at BluEdge that are members of The Marathon Club. This club acknowledges Associates who have been with the company a minimum of fifteen years. The longevity of so many Associates, as well as the family oriented environment, makes for a very pleasant workplace.
