Pros

Literally given cases within first week to run, left to own devices a lot of the time, have your own autonomy.

Cons

Given cases within the first week with little guidance, shouted at if anything is wrong (despite lack of support and training) and a boss who has mood swings faster and more dangerous than Mariah Carey. Always pushed to make cases escape files. Not much continuity, told to do things one way one day and the next could be different, ad hoc meetings,

Thank you for your comment. I am sorry that your experience at Bison had not been a positive one. The work we do is highly demanding and it’s not for everyone. As a new recruit or fee earner in the relevant department, there is an expectation you should at least possess a reasonable standard of legal knowledge and legal training at University. In addition to a law degree, you would have also attended a postgraduate degree such as LPC or a BVTC in order to work at Bison. In other word, the assumption is that you are legally knowledgeable, capable, competent at some level, and hopefully possess some common sense. I appreciate that everyone is different and would require different level of support and guidance. But there must be a base level. Unfortunately, the base level is high and should remain high due to the type and nature of the work we do. You will agree that at Bison we operate on a simple supervision structure- one supervisor supervises no more than 2 juniors. I am somewhat surprised by your comment regarding lack of supervision as I often receive complaints from colleagues that I micro manage too much! A career in law is fast pace and changeable all the time. Ability to adopt to changes is crucial. But yes, I do agree that continuity is important, so will take on board your comment on this issue. With reference to mood swing- Mariah Carey. I am now on mood stabilizer so fingers crossed. Love DT

Pros

- Supportive management but you have to proactively engage in asking questions (naturally because of the nature of the work not every case is the same and so when you do ask additional time is allocated to support you aside from your regular supervision). - Reviews to support with meeting targets and addressing concerns with performance and developments. The company focuses on understanding individual needs and supporting the individual to meeting set goals. - Opportunity to develop your skills which would be more that doing scanning or other peoples work under supervision. - career progression opportunity regardless of education/individual background. The director and associate directors are very attentive to individuals strengths and motivation to learn on the job providing an umbrella of opportunity for employment and career progression. - Bisons learn and grows with you and so every feedback is reviewed and incorporated in the development of the company.

Cons

- limited flexible working opportunities i.e. 4 day week
