Pros

Very easy job and good hours. Very easygoing and fun working environment. It’s the perfect job for college students looking to get more lab experience. I personally think this was the best job I’ve ever had as I adored the people I worked with, they are the ones that made working there fun and I truly never felt like I was going to work. The holiday party was also amazing and you can tell the company cares about its employees.

Cons

Pay is not that great, not a lot of benefits.

Pros

No weekends, Monday-Friday day shifts.

Cons

Gossipy environment. Other techs are obnoxiously loud and feel the need to overshare. Supervisor snooped into everyone’s personal lives. Too much micromanagement. Really low pay. No bonuses and absolutely NO overtime. Felt like I was a janitor instead of a lab tech. Don’t expect a decent raise, even after an excellent eval- it’s all about who you suck up to. Shady area of the city. Had some incidents occur, but management did not care.

Biotechnology Solutions Response

This reviewer’s name is Christina. She worked at HEB prior to Biotechnology Solutions. Christina apparently disapproved of her co-workers’ conversations – there may have been a generational disconnect here. Several media lab team members were recent graduates still resolving college level issues while Christina was at least a decade older. And yes, bonuses and overtime were skipped in 2020-2021 because of the Covid recession and the worst oil/gas downturn in history. This was out of our control. However, we avoided any layoffs during this challenging period. Regarding wages, we pay Houston lab industry standard wages for labs our size (under 20 people). “Janitorial” duties are better described as standard lab cleaning procedures and duties which are part of any lab job. And yes, some employees requiring closer supervision and training may feel micromanaged. However, most employees generally need little attention after initial training. In the end, Christina resigned, started another job and still tried to file for unemployment benefits against Biotechnology Solutions.
