Pros
What I love most about Bernards is that we are a family owned company. No matter how much we grow, we don't have that corporate or political feel where you are always watching your back and get lost in the shuffle. The company as a hole is just over 250 employees. As an individual coming out of college, this was the perfect place for me. I was immediately provided exposure to all aspects of the construction project. I wasn't pinholed into only processing submittals and RFI's. I was immediately involved with contract discussion, structural and MEP coordination, change orders, etc. To me, this experience alone was invaluable and something that could have taken 5-10 years to be exposed to at a larger company. With all that said, Bernards as a whole is on a great path for continued, sustainable growth. I'm excited and proud to be a part of this company.
Cons
As with any construction job these days, you have to be willing to put the hours in. Although the company is very family oriented and will not hesitate to give you time off for personal or family reasons, you should expect to put in 40-60 hour weeks on a regular basis. For me it's simple. Work hard and play harder to maintain that fresh / hungry outlook on life.
