Pros
The biggest pro was also the biggest con: the people. 95% of the people were great, but that archaic 5% always seemed to be getting in the way of projects and progress. Most managers and departments were easy-going. Dress code and such was very nice and lenient. I sported a terrific beard for a number of years that only got compliments.
Cons
Beyond the people - too many cooks in the kitchen. No order or sense of structure. A lot of department could be clipped down, freshened up. No real requirements for the jobs - at least in the office where I was. It's great to have people stay there for 30-40 years, but easy to do so when there are no ways to gauge productivity and no requirements.
